Unstable weather and rain expected in the NYC area this week, according to forecast

New York City is bracing for a wet and warm start to the week as several days of rainy weather are forecasted by the National Weather Service. Meteorologist Dominic Ramunni noted that the rain will help the region recover from historic drought conditions experienced this fall.

The rain is expected to start on Monday afternoon and continue through the evening commute, prompting travelers to allow for extra time. Tuesday will bring some light rain showers and fog, followed by heavier rain on Tuesday night and Wednesday, creating what NWS called “unsettled weather.”

By the end of the week, nearly three inches of total precipitation are expected in the New York metro area, raising the potential for flooding in poorly drained areas. Mild temperatures in the 50s and 60s are forecasted until Wednesday, when strong winds with gusts up to 40-45 mph are expected.

Ramunni advised securing any holiday decorations or outdoor items before Wednesday. After the rain clears, temperatures are expected to drop, with highs in the 30s towards the end of the week. Overall, New Yorkers are advised to prepare for wet weather, potential flooding, and fluctuating temperatures throughout the week.
