Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul filed 10 additional felony charges against two attorneys and an aide who worked for former President Donald Trump for their involvement in a plot to submit false paperwork claiming that Trump won Wisconsin in the 2020 election. The charges include forgery to defraud Republican electors who voted for Trump, even though Joe Biden won the state. The accused individuals are scheduled to appear in court in Madison, Wisconsin. Former Dane County Judge Jim Troupis made his first public comments on the case, stating that he and his family are under financial pressure due to the legal defense costs. The charges carry a maximum penalty of six years in prison and a $10,000 fine each. The scheme involved creating a fraudulent document claiming that Trump won Wisconsin’s electoral votes, which were then submitted to Vice President Mike Pence for certification. Similar charges are pending in other states where fake electors were involved, including Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, and Georgia. Troupis has filed multiple motions to dismiss the case, arguing that no crime was committed and that the state does not have jurisdiction over the matter. Last year, the fake electors settled a lawsuit with the real Biden electors, acknowledging their actions were an attempt to overturn the election results. This case comes as Trump recently won Wisconsin in the latest presidential election and is expected to return to office next month.
