Hilaria Baldwin, wife of actor Alec Baldwin, has found herself in another language-related controversy after a video emerged of her struggling to recall the English word for "onions" while preparing a "traditional" Spanish dish for holiday guests. In the clip, Baldwin, who hails from Massachusetts, was seen in her flannel pajamas boasting about her recipe’s authenticity, claiming she learned it as a child.
While discussing the dish, Baldwin exclaimed, “My husband hates… cebollas,” momentarily forgetting the English term. A friend present in the kitchen quickly stepped in to help her out, reminding her of the correct word.
This incident is not isolated; Baldwin faced backlash in 2015 when she forgot the English word for “cucumber” during a segment on the "Today" show. Throughout the years, Baldwin has been criticized for what some claim is a fake accent, sparking accusations of cultural appropriation. Former classmates have publicly noted her roots as a “white girl from Cambridge,” as her real name is Hillary Hayward-Thomas.
In response to the skepticism surrounding her heritage, Baldwin clarified that she was indeed born in Boston but spent parts of her childhood in Spain, growing up bilingual and intending to raise her seven children in a bilingual environment. Her family has since relocated to Mallorca, Spain, while she continues to live in the U.S.
