Long Island man hailed a hero after saving boy from drowning in Bermuda
Jamie Lambros, a 48-year-old man from Deer Park, Long Island, is being praised as a hero after he jumped into the ocean to save a 10-year-old boy who was struggling in the surf while on vacation in Bermuda. Despite not being a strong swimmer, Lambros did not hesitate to help the boy, who was in distress along with his brother. Unfortunately, Lambros tragically lost his life in the rescue attempt. Despite efforts to save him, he did not survive.
Lambros’ family, who were on vacation with him at the time, have launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral costs. His mother, Phyllis Gasparri, expressed her grief, calling her heart “unrepairable.” She also highlighted the need for safety improvements at Horseshoe Bay Beach, where the incident occurred. They claim that the lack of lifeguards and warning signs about rip currents contributed to the tragedy.
This is not the first incident of an American tourist losing their life at Horseshoe Bay Beach while rescuing someone. The family hopes that sharing their story will lead to changes that prevent similar tragedies from happening in the future. Joey Pappas, Lambros’ brother, spoke of his hope that his brother’s legacy will bring about much-needed safety improvements at the popular tourist destination.
