A recent poll has shown Vice President Kamala Harris with an edge in a key battleground state, prompting her to accept an invitation for a possible second debate with former President Donald Trump. Harris’s campaign chair stated that she is ready to share the stage with Trump and believes that the American people deserve another opportunity to see them debate before casting their ballots. Harris has called on Trump to join her in a debate on Oct. 23.
Trump, however, has expressed reluctance to participate in another debate so close to Election Day, stating that it is too late as voting has already begun. Despite this, the Harris campaign remains hopeful that Trump will agree to participate, citing the success of the previous CNN debate between Trump and President Biden in June.
The poll results showing Harris with an edge in the battleground state have fueled calls for a second debate between the two nominees, following their initial debate on ABC. Trump has previously stated that he will not participate in another debate, but the Harris campaign remains optimistic that he will change his mind.
In the midst of this, the vice presidential contenders, Governor Tim Walz and Senator JD Vance, are scheduled to participate in their own debate hosted by CBS News on Oct. 1. Overall, the political landscape remains uncertain as the November election approaches.
