Police in Brooklyn shot and killed Vilmond Jean-Baptiste, a man wanted in connection to three murders, after he lunged at them with a knife in a first-floor apartment on East 21st Street near Dorchester Road in Flatbush. Authorities stated that the NYPD’s Warrant Squad was attempting to apprehend Jean-Baptiste on an open bench warrant when the altercation occurred. During the encounter, Jean-Baptiste was found hiding in the bathtub with a knife, and when instructed to drop the blade, he refused and lunged at the officers. In response, three cops opened fire, resulting in Jean-Baptiste’s death. A police officer was injured in the incident after being hit in the head with a bottle as they removed Jean-Baptiste from the building.
Jean-Baptiste was a person of interest in three murders, including the stabbing deaths of a 24-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman in July, as well as the killing of a 66-year-old woman in August. Authorities stated that Jean-Baptiste appears to have a pattern of getting involved with older women, moving in with them, and using narcotics. Police also revealed that Jean-Baptiste had a previous arrest in 2015 for reckless endangerment and was wanted on a bench warrant in Kings County in 2022. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, but authorities believe that Jean-Baptiste had a connection to all three murder cases.
