A 64-year-old scooter driver is in critical condition after being struck by a car in Manhattan on Friday. The driver was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The driver of the gas-powered scooter was hit by a grey Acura sedan as it turned left onto W. 20th St. from 10th Ave. The incident occurred around 2:58 p.m. and the scooter driver was rushed to Bellevue Hospital by medics. An unidentified 48-year-old woman driving the Acura stayed at the scene following the accident and no arrests have been made. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with bystanders trying to help the critically injured scooter driver. One witness, a 37-year-old parking lot attendant, described finding the scooter driver on the ground with serious head injuries. The incident highlights the importance of wearing helmets while operating any kind of motorized vehicle on the road. The scooter driver’s condition remains critical as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident.
