Despite sticking out in his festive costume, the Baltimore resident embraces the attention and aims to bring smiles to the faces of New Yorkers. “They always think, ‘Wow, that guy’s weird,'” he said. “If you want to be seen, come to New York.” Liberto’s mission is to spread positivity and the spirit of Christmas, documenting his journey on social media. He believes that the holiday season is about more than physical gift giving, but also about uplifting others. “It’s nice to be able to give something to people they can sit there and pass on to other people and pass their smiles on,” said Liberto.
Throughout the holiday season, Mr. Christmas Tree hands out smiles and surprises to strangers in New York City. He believes in the power of spreading joy and positivity, regardless of language barriers. “The ability to be able to spread their smiles and also spread smiles to people that don’t even speak the same language,” said Liberto. For him, being the brightest in the room and catching the attention of strangers is a small price to pay for the opportunity to uplift others.
