Former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani has been ordered to pay a massive sum to two women, Ruby Freeman and Shay Moss, after falsely accusing them of committing voter fraud during the 2020 election. A federal judge has granted the women’s request to expedite their payment from Giuliani due to concerns that he may attempt to dissipate his assets. The judge stated that Giuliani has a reputation as an “unwilling and uncooperative litigant,” and sided with the two workers in their efforts to obtain their $148 million judgment. In addition to the millions in damages, Giuliani was also hit with $75 million in punitive damages and an additional $20 million for each woman for emotional distress. Giuliani, however, plans to appeal the decision, claiming that he lacks the assets to pay and vowing to fight “this case until I die.” The women first filed their lawsuit in 2021, alleging that Giuliani’s false election fraud claims made them targets of threats and racist attacks. Despite Giuliani’s refusal to disclose evidence in the case, the jury still found him liable for defamation. The women also recently sued Giuliani for a permanent injunction to stop him from publicly speaking about them. Georgia’s state election board dismissed the fraud claims in June, stating that they were “unsubstantiated and found to have no merit.” Despite the judgment, Giuliani continues to spread lies about the women and has shown no remorse, with his attorney stating that the ruling will be “the end of Mr. Giuliani” if he fails to win the appeal. The women’s attorneys have also expressed concerns that Giuliani will attempt to avoid paying the judgment. The case continues, and Giuliani’s attorneys have been reached out for comment on the recent ruling.
