Eight-year-old cancer survivor Mia DeCamilla was pushed down a set of stairs at Highmark Stadium during a Bills-49ers game. Despite the incident, she remains positive and is “feeling great.” Mia, who has overcome liver cancer twice, suffered a rib injury during the fall and her family had to leave the game early. The altercation occurred when a male Bills fan, described as belligently drunk, pushed Mia down the stairs. Her father, Mikey DeCamilla, recounted the disturbing experience, noting that the fan had been hostile towards 49ers fans throughout the game.
Mia had attended the game proudly displaying a sign that proclaimed her victory over cancer. Despite the incident, she remains in good spirits and hopes for better security measures at sporting events to prevent such incidents in the future. There are no plans for her to return to Highmark Stadium for a full game experience. However, the Bills organization has indicated that they will be inviting the DeCamilla family back to a game in Buffalo in the future.
The Bills are scheduled to play the Rams in Los Angeles next, followed by a matchup with the Lions in Detroit. They will then have two divisional games back at Highmark Stadium against the Patriots and the Jets. This incident has sparked conversations about fan behavior at sporting events and the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of all attendees, especially children and cancer survivors like Mia.
