Police fatally shot a man in Illinois after he threatened residents at an assisted living facility with a chain saw. Officers responded to the River Glen of St. Charles senior living facility after reports of the man attempting to cut down a tree on the property. Witnesses said he entered the building lobby and confronted residents with the chain saw. Despite attempts to deescalate the situation and use a stun gun, the man continued to threaten residents. An officer ultimately shot him, and he later died at a hospital. The man’s identity has not been released, and it is unclear why he entered the building or if he had any connection to the facility. Several people, including residents and officers, suffered minor injuries. The incident prompted a large police presence at the facility, but authorities assured the public there was no ongoing danger. The Illinois State Police agency is leading the investigation of the shooting.
