Illinois police detective Allan Reddins was killed in the line of duty while responding to a report of an armed suspect leaving a bank in Oak Park, just outside of Chicago. Reddins was shot in the left side and later pronounced deceased at a local hospital. The suspect, who was also shot in the leg, was taken into custody and remains in stable condition. Reddins, age 40, had been sworn into the Oak Park Police Department in May 2019 and his death marks the first line of duty death for the department since 1938. The Oak Park Police Department extended its condolences to Reddins’ family, friends, and colleagues within the law enforcement community, describing the incident as a senseless act of violence. The exact circumstances of the shooting, including who shot the suspect, were not specified by police. The Oak Park Fire Department responded to the scene after reports of shots being fired. Both Reddins and the suspect were taken to Loyola University Medical Center following the incident. The department is mourning the loss of Reddins and supporting his loved ones during this difficult time.
