Duke Energy cautions of potential 1 million power outages.

Duke Energy is preparing for over 1 million outages in Florida once Hurricane Milton hits the state. The company plans to have 16,000 workers on standby, including crews from Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana, to restore power as soon as weather conditions allow. Hurricane Milton has reached Category 5 status with wind speeds of up to 165 mph and is expected to be one of the most destructive hurricanes on record for west-central Florida. Meanwhile, the Southeast is still recovering from Hurricane Helene, with over 1 million people in Georgia and North Carolina without power. Duke Energy reports that many North Carolina customers are unable to receive electricity due to extensive damage to their homes. The company has restored over 2.6 million outages, including 1.4 million in North Carolina, since Sept. 27. Duke Energy has shifted to a targeted approach for their operations and efforts across western North Carolina, recognizing the severity of the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. The company is working diligently to restore power and prepare for the impact of Hurricane Milton in Florida.
