Ryan Routh, the man arrested in a suspected assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, was a strong supporter of Ukraine in its fight against Russian invasion. He had a history of business troubles and court filings, with over 200 court cases in North Carolina economy. Routh, who is a registered Democrat, had lived in Hawaii and North Carolina and voted in various elections. He was an entrepreneur and builder, who claimed to recruit soldiers for foreign wars he supported. Routh made passionate posts on social media supporting causes like Black Lives Matter, Taiwan’s independence, and Ukraine’s battle against Russia.
He did interviews with media outlets, where he expressed a willingness to fight for his ideals and recruit soldiers for Ukraine. Routh’s passion for protecting Ukraine from Russian aggression seemed to be a driving force behind his actions. He faced legal issues related to his business dealings, with court records showing many conflicts with companies and tax delinquencies.
During the alleged assassination attempt, Routh had a rifle at the fence of Trump International Golf Course, where the former president was golfing. Secret Service agents opened fire on Routh, who fled but was later arrested. This incident followed a previous attempt on Trump’s life a few months earlier. Sheriff Ric Bradshaw mentioned the limited security around Trump at the golf course because he is not currently the president. Bradshaw praised the Secret Service for their quick response and said future security measures might be increased for Trump’s protection.
