Top prospect Jasson Domínguez not called up as Yankees expand rosters

In a surprising move, the New York Yankees chose not to call up top outfield prospect Jasson Domínguez when rosters expanded on Sunday. Despite his strong performance in the minors, where he hit .306 with five home runs in 37 games, the Yankees opted to activate outfielder Duke Ellis and first baseman Anthony Rizzo instead. Manager Aaron Boone emphasized the importance of Domínguez continuing to play regularly in the minor leagues for now.

The decision to keep Domínguez in Triple-A may indicate a commitment to struggling outfielder Alex Verdugo, who has been a strong defensive player despite his offensive struggles. Boone praised Verdugo’s recent at-bats and expressed confidence in his ability to turn things around. Domínguez, a 21-year-old switch hitter, briefly appeared in the majors earlier this season but went hitless in four at-bats.

Fans had been eagerly anticipating Domínguez’s promotion, especially after a recent standout performance where he hit back-to-back-to-back home runs. However, it seems that the Yankees are taking a cautious approach with their highly touted prospect. Domínguez, who can play all three outfield positions, is considered one of the top prospects in baseball and is ranked No. 12 on Keith Law’s midseason list.

While Domínguez’s MLB debut may have been delayed for now, Yankees fans will have to wait and see when the exciting young talent will get his chance to shine on the big stage. In the meantime, the team will focus on their upcoming game against the St. Louis Cardinals at Yankee Stadium.
