Matt Rempe’s legend grows in Rangers’ victory against Flyers

PHILADELPHIA — Rookie Matt Rempe has quickly become a fan favorite for the New York Rangers after just four NHL games. The 21-year-old forward has checked off all the boxes for endearing himself to Rangers fans, playing physically against rival teams like the New York Islanders, New Jersey Devils, and Philadelphia Flyers.

Rempe made headlines in his debut at the Stadium Series, becoming the first player to debut outdoors and getting into a fight with Islanders forward Matt Martin on his first shift. He followed this up with an ejection for a dangerous hit on the Devils’ Nathan Bastian. But it was his fight against Flyers forward Nicolas Deslauriers that really solidified his status as a Rangers cult hero. The two engaged in a spirited bout that drew applause from the crowd and praise from both coaches.

In addition to his physical play, Rempe also scored his first NHL goal in the Rangers’ 2-1 win against the Flyers. His goal stood as the game-winner, earning him high praise from coach Peter Laviolette. While Rempe’s long-term role on the team is still uncertain, he has quickly become a favorite among teammates and fans alike for his gritty play and infectious enthusiasm. Despite not being considered one of the team’s top prospects, Rempe has already made a lasting impression in his short time with the Rangers.
