Tolo Offers a Lunar New Year Banquet Paired with Perfect Wines


Restaurants are gearing up for the Lunar New Year, with celebrations lasting about two weeks starting on Feb. 10. Tolo, a restaurant by chef Ron Yan, will be offering a special $100 per person menu that includes classics like longevity noodles, duck confit spring rolls, jiaozi dumplings, lawei fried rice, and lion’s head meatballs, to name a few. In addition to the special menu, Poon choi, a communal dish of seafood, pork, and duck, with vegetables and tofu, will be served à la carte. Lunar New Year dinners will take place at Tolo from Feb. 9 to 24.

Hero Bread is a bakery in San Francisco that offers healthy and tasty bread products, including loaves, tortillas, hamburger and hot dog buns, and croissants. The products are produced without standard white flour and are high in fiber and protein. The company’s products have become popular among those on keto and low-net-carb diets and are supported by celebrity endorsements. Hero Bread products are available nationwide.

Dominique Ansel, known for the Cronut, has teamed up with Hawksmoor to offer a Bone-in Short Rib en Croûte, a fist-size hunk of braised bone-in short rib wrapped in brioche pastry. It will be available to take out at Dominique Ansel Workshop with a hot latte tea starting at 8 a.m. from Jan. 26 to 28.

Giffard, a French liqueurs company, now offers alcohol-free versions of its fruit-based liqueurs, such as pink grapefruit, ginger, elderflower, and pineapple. The company uses traditional maceration techniques to extract flavors and balance the results with white wine vinegar. The products are sweet but not cloying and can be mixed with sparkling wine or poured over cut fruit.

Truff, a company based in California, adds truffles to condiments like hot sauces. Their latest product, Truff Jalapeño-Lime Black Truffle Hot Sauce, offers the aroma of black truffle with the sting of chiles, suitable for seafood, steak, or tacos.

Rancho Meladuco Date Farm in Newport Beach, Calif., offers an assortment of heirloom dates, including Dayri, Amir Hajj, Halawi, and Barhi, with flavors that vary from spicy to honeyed. The dates make for an interesting Valentine’s Day gift.
