Menendez was previously the powerful chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee but remains a member of the committee. His attorneys did not respond to a request for comment. Menendez has previously stated that he has always been loyal to the United States and firmly believes he will be exonerated once all the facts are presented. He has also defended his record on Egypt and stated that the thousands of dollars in cash he withdrew from his savings were part of his legal income over 30 years. Overall, Menendez’s legal troubles continue to mount as he faces new allegations of bribery and corruption involving the government of Qatar.
