U.S. rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, whose real name is Daniel Hernández, has been arrested in the Dominican Republic on charges of domestic violence. The arrest took place in the capital of Santo Domingo on Wednesday. The rapper is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, where a judge will decide whether he will remain in custody or be freed on bond as the investigation continues.
This is not the first time that Hernández has faced legal issues. In October 2022, he was arrested at a seaside hotel in the Dominican Republic for allegedly assaulting a local music producer. He was also previously accused in the U.S. of using a violent gang as a “personal hit squad” but avoided prison after providing testimony against the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods on the East Coast. In March 2023, he was assaulted by several people at a gym in Florida.
Despite his legal troubles, Tekashi 6ix9ine has had commercial success in the music industry. His song “Fefe,” featuring Nicki Minaj, was a multiplatinum hit in 2018, peaking at No. 3 on the pop charts.
At the time of his latest arrest, it was not immediately clear whether Hernández had legal representation in the Dominican Republic. The details of his case and the impending court appearance have attracted significant media attention, and fans and followers are on the edge of their seats awaiting the outcome of the legal proceedings.
