Bronx man arrested for stabbing Arkmayer Davis, yelled threats and homophobic slur at victim: husband

A man has been arrested for stabbing 36-year-old Arkmayer Davis to death outside a Bronx homeless shelter on Christmas Eve. The victim’s husband, Daris Antwan Davis, revealed that the alleged killer, Kayjon Yizar, had a history of threatening and shouting homophobic slurs at them, blaming them for a fire that destroyed their apartment. All three men had been forced into the shelter after losing their homes in the fire. Yizar was charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon.

Daris Davis recounted a troubling encounter with Yizar in July where he threatened them with a gun and spewed homophobic remarks. He believes that Yizar’s intention was initially to harm him, not Arkmayer. Daris Davis worked with the police to identify Yizar from surveillance footage of the stabbing and testified about the history between the victim and the alleged killer.

Arkmayer was repeatedly stabbed in the arm, leg, and torso and later died at St. Barnabas Hospital. Daris Davis hopes that Yizar faces the death penalty or life in prison without parole for taking away the love of his life. He wants Yizar to experience the loneliness and misery of isolation in prison. The victim’s husband expressed relief that justice was being served and that Yizar would pay for his actions.
