Mets to Hold Press Conference with Juan Soto Following Contract Signing – NBC New York

Juan Soto, the newly signed player for the New York Mets, will be officially introduced at Citi Field on Thursday following the finalization of his record-breaking $765 million, 15-year contract. Soto made the decision to leave the Yankees and accept the Mets’ offer on Sunday, despite helping the Yankees reach the World Series in his sole season with the team.

At 26 years old, Soto’s contract value surpasses that of Shohei Ohtani’s deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers last December and Fernando Tatis Jr.’s agreement with San Diego. Soto will have the option to become a free agent once more after five years, but the Mets have the ability to retain him by adding $40 million to the final 10 years of the deal, bringing the total value to $805 million.

In the 2023 season, Soto delivered impressive stats with a .288 batting average, 41 home runs, 109 RBIs, and 129 walks. With a career batting average of .285, 201 home runs, 592 RBIs, and 769 walks over seven major league seasons with Washington, San Diego, and the Yankees, Soto is poised to be a key player for the Mets.

The Mets are looking forward to seeing Soto thrive in their lineup and contribute to the team’s success in the upcoming seasons. Fans are excited to witness Soto’s talent and potential on the field as he joins the Mets organization.
