The Boston Red Sox have finally made a significant move after missing out on several high-profile free agents. They are on the verge of acquiring White Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet in exchange for catching prospect Kyle Teel, outfielder Braden Montgomery, infielder Chase Meidroth, and right-hander Wikelman Gonzalez. Crochet, an All-Star last year, had impressive stats despite playing on a struggling team. Teel, who is currently ranked 25th on MLB’s top 100 list, is the most coveted prospect in the trade. Montgomery is ranked 54th, while Meidroth and Gonzalez are not on the list.
The Red Sox’s pursuit of Crochet comes after losing out on other high-profile players like Juan Soto, Max Fried, and Shane Bieber. The news has brought relief to Red Sox fans, who were growing anxious about the team’s lack of signings. Former Red Sox infielder and current talk show host Lou Merloni has also expressed his hope for the team to pursue former Cy Young award winner Corbin Burnes. Merloni believes that acquiring Burnes would significantly strengthen the Red Sox’s rotation and make them serious contenders.
The Red Sox, who finished 81-81 and missed the playoffs last season, are hoping that the acquisition of Crochet will help bolster their pitching staff and improve their chances of making a deep postseason run in the upcoming season.
