NBC New York reports on StubHub’s rankings of the top 10 live global sporting events in 2024.

The year 2024 was a thrilling one for sports fans, with a number of major global sporting events capturing the attention of audiences around the world. According to StubHub’s “2024 Year in Live Experiences” report, the most coveted ticket of the year was not the Super Bowl, but rather the 2024 World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees.

Featuring superstars like Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Judge, Mookie Betts, and Juan Soto, the World Series saw ticket prices soar above $1,000 as fans of both teams clamored to witness the action live. The five-game series outsold the NBA Finals by almost 500%, cementing its status as the most in-demand sporting event of the year.

The Super Bowl LVIII between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers also ranked high on StubHub’s list, with the game in Las Vegas outselling the previous year’s Super Bowl by 76%. Other notable events included the Euro 2024 semifinals and finals, the Copa America semifinals and finals, and the NBA Finals between the Celtics and Mavericks.

In addition to the success of these major sporting events, StubHub also highlighted the significant growth of the WNBA in 2024. The league saw a total ticket sales increase of nearly 1000%, with the Indiana Fever experiencing a 9000% rise in sales during Caitlin Clark’s rookie season.

Overall, 2024 was a record-setting year for ticket sales in sports, with live events also having a substantial impact on global tourism. International travel to live events increased by 62% compared to the previous year, with concerts, cricket, soccer, and the NFL all experiencing growth among international fans.
