Manhattan’s fine dining scene shines with Michelin stars


Manhattan continues to be the hub of fine dining, as evidenced by the recent Michelin Guide awards ceremony. Several restaurants in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Westchester County were recognized for their culinary excellence, with Jungsik in Tribeca becoming the first Korean restaurant in the U.S. to earn three Michelin stars. Other notable establishments that retained three stars include Eleven Madison Park, Le Bernardin, Masa, and Per Se.

Two notable restaurants in New York that received two stars were César and Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare. The ceremony also honored eight new restaurants with one Michelin star, showcasing the diverse range of culinary talent in the city.

Despite criticism of the Michelin star system for its lack of transparency and diversity, chefs and restaurateurs still value the recognition. Amanda McMillan, general manager of the Four Horsemen group, emphasized the significance of having a Michelin-starred establishment, while Rick Camac, executive director of the Institute of Culinary Education, highlighted the importance of New York Times reviews in driving traffic to restaurants.

The awards ceremony also recognized individuals in the industry, including Suwincha “Chacha” Singsuwan from Bangkok Supper Club for Exceptional Cocktails and James Kent from Saga for the Mentor Award. Additionally, the Michelin Green Star Award for sustainability was given to One White Street, highlighting the growing importance of eco-friendly practices in the culinary world.

Overall, the Michelin Guide awards ceremony celebrated the top culinary talent in New York City and emphasized the continued excellence and innovation of the dining scene in the region.
