Highly-touted basketball prospect AJ Dybantsa chooses BYU as his college destination, sealing his commitment as the potential No. 1 NBA Draft pick – NBC New York

High school basketball prospect AJ Dybantsa from Brockton, Mass., has verbally committed to BYU over top programs like Kansas, North Carolina, and Alabama. Standing at 6-foot-9, Dybantsa is expected to be a key player for the Cougars in the upcoming 2025-2026 men’s college basketball season.

While it is uncertain if Dybantsa plans to stay past his freshman year at BYU, he is projected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. This commitment has significantly boosted the Cougars’ chances of success in the upcoming season.

BYU, currently playing in the Big 12, has a strong basketball history with 31 NCAA tournament appearances and two NIT tournament wins. Dybantsa is seen as the most significant addition to the program since Jimmer Fredette’s national player of the year win in 2011.

Notable BYU alum Danny Ainge, the CEO of basketball operations for the Utah Jazz, has had a successful career with two NBA Final wins as a player for the Boston Celtics and one as an executive. Dybantsa’s decision to commit to BYU has generated a lot of excitement and optimism for the Cougars’ basketball program.
