A 55-year-old fugitive named Eric Pree who escaped from a federal prison in California was caught and indicted after being on the run for nearly eight years. He was already serving a 101-month sentence for federal wire fraud and aggravated identity theft charges when he escaped from U.S. Penitentiary Atwater in January 2017. Pree was finally arrested in October in Walnut Creek, a suburb in the San Francisco Bay Area. At the time of his arrest, he was found with several cellphones, ID cards, debit and credit cards in different names, numerous driver’s licenses, and a fake Harvard University student ID. Pree is now back in federal custody to serve the remainder of his original sentence and is facing a new indictment for the escape charge. If convicted, he could face a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Authorities did not disclose how Pree managed to escape from prison, but he was finally apprehended after being on the run for nearly a decade.
