New York Mets focusing on low-risk, high-reward signings for rotation in 2025 season
New York Mets President of Baseball Operations David Stearns continues his trend of making low-risk, high-reward signings for the team’s starting rotation ahead of the 2025 season. Following successful signings in the previous year, such as Luis Severino and Sean Manaea, Stearns has brought onboard Frankie Montas and Clay Holmes.
Montas, with a 13-23 record and a 4.43 ERA over the last three seasons, showed promise during his time with the Oakland Athletics. Holmes, formerly of the New York Yankees, will be given a chance as a starter after losing his closer role.
The Mets’ rotation will also feature Kodai Senga, David Peterson, and Paul Blackburn. While Stearns may still be looking for more starters, major signings like Corbin Burnes or Max Fried seem unlikely. The team is reportedly interested in reuniting with Manaea, who played a crucial role in securing a playoff spot and making a run to the NLCS.
Other potential options mentioned by Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic include Jack Flaherty and Walker Buehler from the Los Angeles Dodgers, as well as Nick Pivetta from the Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Red Sox.
