Steve Mensch, the former president and general operations manager of Tyler Perry Studios, tragically passed away in a plane crash at the age of 62 on Friday, December 6. Mensch had been a cherished member of the studio for over 8 years and was well-loved in the Atlanta community, according to a spokesperson for Tyler Perry Studios. He is survived by his wife and three children.
The single-seat plane crash occurred on a road in Homosassa, Florida, with Mensch identified as the sole occupant by the Citrus County Sheriff’s office. The accident led to the closure of southbound lanes in the area, causing traffic delays. The lanes were later reopened, allowing normal traffic flow.
Mensch had joined Tyler Perry Studios in 2016 and played a key role in the transformation of an Atlanta-area army base into a major film lot, making it one of the largest studio spaces in Hollywood. Mensch’s passion for the project was evident in his interviews, where he spoke about the studio’s groundbreaking work and the opportunity to work with a legend like Tyler Perry.
Tyler Perry Studios has yet to publicly address Mensch’s death. The loss of Mensch adds to a year of mourning for Hollywood, with the passing of other celebrities like Speed Racer star Christian Oliver occurring in tragic accidents. The entertainment industry continues to remember and honor those lost.
