The Los Angeles Galaxy claimed their sixth MLS Cup title with a 2-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. Two early goals from Joseph Paintsil and Dejan Joveljic set the tone for the match, with the Red Bulls later pulling one back through Sean Nealis. Despite a spirited response from New York, including hitting the post, the Galaxy held on for the win.
The loss extended New York’s wait for a first MLS Cup title, with their only other appearance in the final coming in 2008. The Red Bulls were dealt a blow before kick-off when center-back Andres Reyes was ruled out due to illness, resulting in a last-minute change in the lineup. This setback seemed to unsettle the team early on, allowing Paintsil and Joveljic to capitalize and take the lead for the Galaxy.
The match saw both teams create chances, with near misses and posts hit at both ends of the pitch. Despite New York’s efforts to get back into the game, the Galaxy’s early goals proved to be enough to secure victory and add to their trophy cabinet.
