In recent months, an individual named Mackenzie Watson, known as “MackNazi” by some neighbors, has been causing havoc on the Upper West Side of New York City. Watson has been tearing down Israeli hostage posters and assaulting those who try to stop him. Residents have reported multiple incidents of aggressive behavior and anti-Semitic outbursts from Watson. Despite facing charges for assault, Watson received a lenient plea deal from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.
One of the most recent incidents involved Watson harassing a 15-year-old girl and her mother after the teen removed one of his “antisemitic” stickers. The mother reported feeling threatened and pursued by Watson as he verbally attacked them. Another neighbor also experienced aggressive behavior from Watson while trying to raise awareness about Israeli and American hostages held by Hamas.
Despite violating his plea deal by being arrested for assaulting a man who intervened in a dispute, Watson continues his behavior. The District Attorney’s office has requested the conditional discharge be voided, and Watson faces new charges of assault and harassment. Mayor Eric Adams recently suspended a staffer who also engaged in similar behavior after public outcry.
Watson’s actions are part of a larger trend of individuals targeting those raising awareness about Israeli hostages since Hamas’ terror attack. His disruptive and belligerent behavior has left many in the neighborhood feeling unsafe. Residents have expressed frustration over the lack of accountability for his actions and are calling for stronger consequences.
