Atlanta-based Tyler Perry Studios is mourning the loss of its president, Steve Mensch, who tragically died in a plane crash on Florida’s Gulf Coast. Mensch, 62, was a beloved member of the team for over eight years and played a crucial role in the film industry in Georgia.
The crash occurred in Homosassa, north of Tampa, and is currently under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board. Mensch was the owner of the single-engine Vans RV-12IS plane involved in the accident.
Mensch was a key advocate for Georgia’s film tax credit, which has made the state a thriving hub for film and television production. He was instrumental in promoting the industry and helping to establish Georgia as a competitive market.
Having worked with Turner Broadcasting and other studios, Mensch eventually joined Tyler Perry Studios in 2016, overseeing the creation and management of the vast studio facilities. His dedication to the industry was evident, as he worked tirelessly to support and grow the film and television market in Georgia.
Mensch’s death comes at a poignant time, as Perry released his latest film, “The Six Triple Eight,” shot at the Atlanta studio, on the same day. Mensch’s achievements and contributions to the film industry will be remembered and cherished. He is survived by his wife, Danila, and three children.
