NYPD believes suspect fled NYC, FBI assists in investigation into UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s murder

The FBI has joined the investigation into the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside a Manhattan hotel. The suspect, believed to have left New York City, is being pursued with the help of surveillance footage and a wanted poster offering a $50,000 award for information leading to an arrest and conviction. The NYPD Chief of Detectives stated that the suspect was last seen near the Port Authority bus center. Security camera footage from an Upper West Side hostel and a Starbucks, where the suspect purchased items before the shooting, is being used in the investigation. A backpack possibly belonging to the shooter was found in Central Park along with a water bottle and coffee cup being tested for DNA evidence. The manhunt for the killer, who has been seen smiling in multiple surveillance images, has expanded beyond the tri-state area as authorities continue to search for leads in this high-profile case. Thompson, 50 years old, was fatally shot outside the Hilton hotel in Midtown on Wednesday morning. The FBI is now assisting the NYPD in the investigation to bring justice for Thompson and his loved ones.
