Japanese judokas dominated the first day of the Tokyo Grand Slam, winning all seven gold medals in various weight categories. The tournament marked the conclusion of the 2024 World Judo Tour organized by the International Judo Federation (IJF) in the spiritual home of judo, Tokyo.
In the -48kg category, Koga Wakana narrowly defeated Kondo Mitsuki to claim the gold with a waza-ari in golden score. The medals were presented by IJF President, Mr. Marius VIZER. In the -60kg category, Taiki Nakamura outperformed last year’s winner Nagayama Ryuju to secure the gold by shido, with All Japan Judo Federation President, Mr. Shinichi Nakamura, awarding the medal.
In other weight categories, judokas such as Kisumi Omori, Takeoka Takeshi, Mika Adachi, Ryuga Tanaka, and Haruka Kaju showcased their skills to win gold medals. The Japanese athletes displayed exceptional talent and determination, with the medals being awarded by distinguished guests including Kodokan President Mr. Haruki Uemura and IJF Vice President Mr. Obaid Al Anzi.
The impressive performance by the Japanese team secured a total of seven gold medals in the tournament, highlighting their dominance in the sport of judo. With one more day of competition remaining, Tokyo is all set to conclude the 2024 judo calendar in style.
