American figure skater Amber Glenn made history on Saturday by becoming the first American woman to win the Grand Prix Final in 14 years. The 25-year-old Texan has had a breakout season, remaining undefeated in the 2024-25 season and capturing her first U.S. national title earlier in the year.
Glenn’s victory marked a significant achievement in her career, as she confessed to struggling with imposter syndrome and not fully accepting her success. She attributed her win to hard work finally paying off and expressed her honor at being able to compete at such a high level.
Despite dealing with some pain during her short program on Thursday, Glenn delivered a strong performance in the free skate, which included an emphatic triple axel. She finished with a total score of 212.07, claiming the top spot on the podium.
Japanese skaters Mone Chiba and Kaori Sakamoto took second and third place, respectively. Chiba, a silver medalist in her previous Grand Prix events, finished with a score of 208.85, while Sakamoto, a three-time world champion, earned the bronze with a score of 201.13.
The U.S. team had the potential to win two more titles later in the day, with Ilia Malinin leading the men’s event and Madison Chock and Evan Bates leading in ice dance. Glenn’s historic victory solidified her position as a rising star in the world of figure skating.
