The suspected gunman who attacked a private religious school in Northern California had a history of mental illness and used a fake story to gain access to the school, where he critically injured two kindergarten students before killing himself. The two boys, ages 5 and 6, sustained gunshot wounds and were in critical but stable condition after undergoing surgery. The suspect, Glenn Litton, had a criminal record and targeted the school due to its affiliation with the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Litton used a “ruse” to gain entry to the school and opened fire on students during their break before committing suicide. Authorities believe the attack was isolated and driven by Litton’s mental health issues, which had been documented since he was 16 years old. Litton had also researched another Adventist school as an alternative target and had a history of online searches related to weapons and explosives. The incident in Oroville, California, is the latest in a series of school shootings in the country, sparking debates about gun control and school safety. The school has since beefed up security measures, and students were safely reunited with their families after the attack.
