Sources report that ‘The Michael Kay Show’ will be moving from the afternoon time slot, marking the end of an era in New York radio.

After 22 years, “The Michael Kay Show” on ESPN New York will soon be coming to an end in the afternoon time slot. The decision to move the show to mid-days comes after discussions about the evolving radio business and Kay’s desire for a more manageable schedule. The final show is expected to air on December 13th.

Kay, along with co-hosts Don La Greca and Peter Rosenberg, has been a staple in New York sports radio, engaging in entertaining and often contentious battles with their rivals on WFAN. Kay will continue on the airwaves with his own solo show from 1-3 p.m. ET on ESPN New York, while La Greca and Rosenberg are expected to stay and be joined by Alan Hahn in the afternoons.

The new lineup is set to begin on January 6th, with Hahn joining La Greca and Rosenberg from 3-7 p.m. ET. The YES simulcast for Kay’s new time slot and afternoons is still to be determined. ESPN declined to comment on the new format, which will see Bart Scott shifting to a new time slot with Dan Graca.

The rivalry between ESPN New York and WFAN, particularly between Kay and Mike Francesa, has been a major draw for New York sports radio fans. However, under the new direction of Good Karma Brands, ESPN New York has discontinued using Nielsen’s ratings and focused more on digital growth.

Kay, who will continue as the TV voice of the Yankees on YES, will now be taking on a new role as a solo host in mid-days, marking the end of an era in New York sports radio.
