Marcella Nasseri found her long-lost brother Thomas Manizak after 25 years through a USA TODAY story. However, the reunion may not be as heartwarming as it seemed at first. Manizak, who was found nonverbal in a Los Angeles County hospital, turned out to be a registered sex offender convicted of abusing a child in 1993. His sister positively identified him, revealing that Manizak had evaded authorities by not fingerprinting him, which would have revealed his criminal record.
Manizak disappeared in 1999 after being in contact with his family, including his last phone call to his mother. He was last seen in his van, which was never located. Now, Manizak is being transferred from Los Angeles County to a facility in Lassen County, where his sister resides. Nasseri, who raised over $11,500 in donations through GoFundMe, plans to visit and support her brother despite his past actions. She described the ordeal as causing “huge heartache” in their family, compounded by his disappearance.
Nasseri is committed to helping her brother, providing him with clothing, drawing materials, and music to stimulate his memories. She expressed her love for him and her determination to care for him, regardless of his troubled past. She plans to visit him soon and transfer him to a medical facility near her home, showing her dedication to reuniting with her long-lost brother after a tumultuous journey.
