Authorities in northern California responded to a shooting at a small Christian elementary school where two kindergarten students were wounded and a suspected gunman was found dead. The incident occurred at Feather River Adventist School in Palermo, Calif., with the Butte County Sheriff’s Office confirming that the suspect had no apparent connection to the school. The suspect had arrived at the school to speak with the principal about enrolling a student but shortly after the meeting, shots were fired and the two students were found injured. The suspected gunman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The 5- and 6-year old children were taken to the hospital for treatment, with one of them airlifted. The FBI was assisting in the investigation, offering support to the sheriff’s office and the affected school community. Students were reunited with their parents at a nearby church, where authorities provided updates on the situation.
The school, affiliated with the Seventh Day Adventist Church, has 33 students in grades K-8. The incident prompted a 911 call reporting the shooting, leading to a rapid response from law enforcement. While the identities of the suspect and the wounded students were not released, authorities confirmed that the situation was contained and there was no ongoing threat to the community.
