Pennsylvania woman possibly dropped into sinkhole

A woman named Elizabeth Pollard disappeared into a sinkhole in Pennsylvania while searching for her cat Pepper near Monday’s Restaurant in Unity Township. Pollard was last seen around 5 p.m. Monday, and her family reported her missing to the state police around 1 a.m. Tuesday when she did not return home. Police found Pollard’s car behind the restaurant with her granddaughter inside, and a sinkhole near the car was discovered that was almost the size of a manhole cover. Rescue workers accessed a mine suspected to have caused the sinkhole and found a shoe about 25 feet below ground. There were around 100 people involved in the rescue effort, with officials remaining hopeful that Pollard could be found alive. Pollard’s niece mentioned that her aunt has multiple cats at home and that they are very important to her family. The rescue operation was ongoing, with officials reporting no dangerous atmospheric conditions in the sinkhole, increasing the hope that Pollard could be located. The situation remains urgent, with significant resources being dedicated to find Pollard and bring her to safety.
