New York Giants coach Brian Daboll has announced that Drew Lock will serve as the team’s starting quarterback for their Week 14 matchup against the New Orleans Saints. Lock will make his second consecutive start after filling in for an injured Tommy DeVito in the Giants’ Thanksgiving day loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Lock will have a full week of preparation for the game against the Saints, as he stepped in late against the Cowboys due to DeVito’s injury.
After the Giants benched and waived Daniel Jones in Week 12, DeVito was named the starting quarterback over Lock for their game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, DeVito sustained a throwing arm injury during the game, prompting Lock to step in as the starter for the following matchup against the Cowboys. Lock finished the game with 21-for-32 passing for 178 yards with an interception and added 57 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown in the loss.
Lock has posted a 9-15 record as a starting quarterback over his five-year career with the Giants, Broncos, and Seahawks. Daboll has pointed out areas for improvement for Lock, but also recognizes his potential. Lock will have the chance to show his growth with a full week of preparation leading up to the game against the Saints. DeVito, still dealing with a right forearm injury, may serve as the backup depending on his health. The Giants quarterback carousel seems to have finally found some stability with Lock at the helm for now.
