Barbara Klar’s Memoir: A Bold Adventure in NYC’s Art and Jewelry Scene

Barbara Klar, a renowned jeweler with a career spanning decades, has recently published her memoir titled “You’re So Talented: Confessions of a Worker B.” Originally from Ohio, Klar moved to NYC in 1979 and has since created handmade original creations that have been featured on TV shows, in movies, and worn by rock stars like David Bowie. Her memoir recounts the triumphs and challenges of her artistic journey in the city that never sleeps.

In her memoir, Klar reflects on her time in NYC, from working in the Diamond District to sleeping in the back of her store on East 7th Street, to the wild parties and characters that populated the neighborhood. Despite the struggles and setbacks, Klar found solace in the act of creation inspired by the city’s energy and vibrancy.

Fast forward to today, Klar considers herself semi-retired but still dedicated to her craft. She continues to create unique jewelry pieces using ancient symbols and modern concepts, with her work becoming more refined as she gains success. While she may miss the energy of NYC, she is content in her upstate home in Woodstock.

Klar’s annual show will be held at the Chelsea Hotel on December 6th and 7th, showcasing her latest creations. Her memoir is available on her website and Amazon, offering readers a glimpse into the life of a talented and resilient artist.
