Despite the rain, the 98th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade marched through Manhattan with attendees enjoying front-row viewing of marching bands, floats, and larger-than-life balloons. New additions included a float for the Bronx Zoo’s 125th anniversary, while traditional favorites like Snoopy and Santa made appearances. The Sanitation Department worked to clean up over 20 tons of garbage along the parade route. The parade began at West 77th Street, winding its way to Herald Square in front of Macy’s flagship store. The Macy’s parade studio team put in over 8,000 hours to make the event a success. With over 3.5 million people attending the parade in person and over 50 million viewers tuning in from home, the rain was seen as enhancing the holiday cheer of the event. One first-time attendee noted that the rain symbolized change as the holiday season began. Overall, the parade was a joyous event despite the weather, maintaining its nearly century-old tradition of bringing holiday cheer to millions of people.
