Water main break causes chaos on Upper West Side, impacting 8 buildings

A water main break at 102nd Street and Central Park West on the Upper West Side disrupted service to eight buildings on Wednesday afternoon, just a day before Thanksgiving. City officials stated that the Department of Environmental Protection had shut off water in the area around 3 p.m. to address the issue. The MTA had briefly affected subway service on the A, B, C, and D lines, but has since restored service. To assist affected residents, “water on the go” stations were set up nearby to provide access to potable water during repairs.

Mayor Eric Adams commended DEP Commissioner Rohit Aggarwala and his team for their swift response at an unrelated news conference. Repairs are still ongoing, and officials have not provided an estimated timeline for full restoration at this time. Residents in the area were urged to remain vigilant for updates on the situation.

The water main break caused disruptions and inconveniences for residents in the affected area, but city officials are working diligently to address the issue. Despite the unexpected situation, the response from city agencies and officials has been efficient and effective in minimizing the impact on residents.
