Retired state Sen. Tarky Lombardi, a prominent figure from the Syracuse area, has passed away at the age of 95. He died at his Jamesville residence from kidney complications. He held the seat for 27 years until his retirement in 1992.
Lombardi was a huge supporter of Syracuse University athletics and played a key role in acquiring state funding for the construction of the Carrier Dome. He was recognized by Syracuse head football coach Fran Brown this year for his loyalty as a long-time season ticket holder.
