Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez has agreed to a one-year contract extension with Inter Miami, ensuring that he will continue to play alongside Lionel Messi for at least one more season. Suarez scored 20 goals during the MLS regular season and a team-best 25 goals across all competitions, helping Inter Miami set records for points and winning percentage. The team, however, fell short in the playoffs, failing to advance past the first round.
The 38-year-old Suarez, known as one of the greatest strikers of all time, has represented Uruguay in four World Cup competitions and has played for clubs such as Liverpool and Atletico Madrid. His contract extension with Inter Miami keeps him alongside Messi, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and newly appointed coach Javier Mascherano, all of whom have ties to Barcelona.
Inter Miami president Raul Sanllehi praised Suarez’s impact on the team, highlighting his leadership and goal-scoring abilities. Suarez expressed his excitement to continue playing for the team and connect with the fanbase, whom he considers like family.
Financial terms of the contract extension were not disclosed. The agreement ensures that Suarez will bring his elite level of performance to Inter Miami for another season, aiming to bring joy to the fans and continue the team’s success in the MLS.
