Two companies, Proximo Spirits and IO Interactive, have decided to cut ties with Conor McGregor following a civil court ruling in Ireland that ordered McGregor to pay nearly 250,000 Euros to a woman who accused him of raping her. Proximo Spirits, the owner of Proper No. 12 Irish whiskey, will no longer use McGregor’s name or image in marketing the brand. Similarly, IO Interactive, the video game developer, has decided to end its collaboration with McGregor, who played a fighter in the game “Hitman.”
The ruling in the civil case came after Nikita Hand accused McGregor of assaulting her in a Dublin hotel penthouse in 2018, claiming she was brutally raped and battered. McGregor denied the allegations, stating that the encounter was consensual. The jury found him liable for assault after deliberating for six hours in the High Court in Dublin.
Following the decision, both companies announced their decisions to part ways with McGregor, stating that they take the matter seriously and cannot ignore its implications. They will begin removing all content featuring McGregor from their marketing and storefronts immediately.
The case has garnered significant attention as it involves a high-profile athlete and allegations of assault. McGregor’s reputation has been tarnished by the ruling, leading to repercussions in his endorsement deals and collaborations with major companies.
