Popular forward Matt Rempe of the New York Rangers had a short return to the lineup, as he was sent back down to AHL Hartford after just one game. Rempe was called up for the team’s recent loss to the Blues, marking his fourth game of the season and his first since October. His opportunity came due to injuries to Filip Chytil and Chris Kreider. While in the lineup, Rempe played nearly 10 minutes but received a roughing penalty in the third period.
In his place, the Rangers called up defenseman Chad Ruhwedel. Rookie Brett Berard also got a chance to play, making his NHL debut and registering an assist. Both Chytil and Kreider are expected to join the team on their upcoming road trip, which begins against the Hurricanes.
The move to send Rempe back down to the AHL indicates that the Rangers are making adjustments to their lineup based on injuries and performance. Head coach Peter Laviolette will have to continue to shuffle his roster to account for missing players. With the opportunity he was given, Rempe will have to wait for another chance to prove himself at the NHL level.
