Press Article: Two Men Wounded in Harlem Shooting Amid Memorial for Teen
HARLEM, NY – Two men were shot and injured on Wednesday evening in a violent incident near a memorial site honoring a teenager who was fatally shot just days earlier. The attack occurred around 7:39 p.m. behind a building on E. 115th St. and Third Ave., where a gunman entered through an exit gate and opened fire, hitting a 27-year-old man twice in the torso and a 24-year-old man in the arm.
Witnesses described the chaotic scene, with one bystander expressing shock after encountering one of the victims in a lobby, covered in blood. Both victims were quickly transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and police have not made any arrests in connection with the incident.
This violent outburst comes just days after the shooting death of 16-year-old Clarence Jones, who was gunned down on October 24, just nine blocks from where the latest shooting took place. Jones, who had a troubled background, was on probation and had been linked to armed robbery incidents. His family expressed deep sorrow over their loss, describing his death as senseless.
The Harlem community has been rocked by this latest instance of violence, as mourners gathered to pay respect to Jones just as the shooting unfolded nearby. Police are urging anyone with information regarding the shooting or the earlier murder of Jones to contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, emphasizing that all tips will remain confidential.
As investigations continue, the community seeks answers and safety amid ongoing violence.
