Who will be delivering the ceremonial first pitch at World Series Game 5? – NBC New York

Yankees legends Derek Jeter and Paul O’Neill recently threw out the first pitches for Games 3 and 4 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium. Now, it is Hideki Matsui’s turn to take the mound as he will throw out the ceremonial first pitch before Game 5 on Wednesday night.

Matsui, who played for the Yankees from 2003 to 2009, had a successful MLB career with stints on the Angels, Athletics, and Rays after his time in New York. A true power hitter, Matsui batted .282 with 175 home runs and 760 RBI over 1,236 games in the majors.

The highlight of Matsui’s career came in 2009 when he won the World Series with the Yankees and was named the World Series MVP for his outstanding performance. Additionally, he was selected as an All-Star in 2003 and 2004 during his time in pinstripes.

Although Matsui’s MLB career came to an end in 2012 when he was released by the Tampa Bay Rays, his legacy as a Yankees great lives on. Fans will have the opportunity to see the beloved player back on the field as he continues to be a part of the Yankees’ rich history and tradition.
