Close Battle between Harris and Trump in Michigan

Less than a week before Election Day, an exclusive USA TODAY/Suffolk University poll shows Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump tied at 47% to 47% in the battleground state of Michigan. The poll was conducted among 500 likely voters with a margin of error of 4.4 percentage points. In Kent County, Harris leads Trump 47% to 46% among 300 likely voters. Pollster David Paleologos states that the race in Michigan is a true margin of error race, with Kent County possibly being a determining factor for the state’s outcome.

Michigan, with 15 electoral votes, is a key battleground state in the presidential race, along with six others. In 2016, Trump won the state, flipping Democratic strongholds like Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. However, in 2020, Joe Biden won all three states back. USA TODAY/Suffolk polls suggest that Michigan and the other swing states are too close to predict at this point.

The poll also reveals that there are eight presidential candidates on the Michigan ballot, including longshot third-party candidates who each garnered about 1% support. Concerns have been raised that these third-party candidates could impact the election outcome in a close race. Voters expressed strong opinions on their choices, with reasons ranging from economic policies to foreign policy and character traits.

Overall, the sentiment among voters is divided, with some hoping for continuity from Trump and others looking for a change with Harris. The election outcome is uncertain, with both candidates fighting for crucial swing states like Michigan to secure the presidency.
